Hidden among the greenery in the Chamber greenhouse is an animated film by Johan Rijpma. A water plant sways back and forth due to the current in the water. Slowly the drawn image replaces the filmic image. In the end, a cut-out animation emerges. White paper forms a three-dimensional paper plant.
Johan Rijpma puts his finger on the inspiration that nature has to offer an artist.
He also often uses simple subjects from his everyday surroundings as the basis for new work. His work is created through experimentation and playfulness. Johan analyzes and reflects. He focuses on the desire for control versus the unpredictability of everyday life.
Video, animation and photography are primarily the means by which he creates and records unusual, seemingly simple but often minute processes.
