- In Short
Space, memories and time are common themes in Jonathan’s work. His work consists of an array of accessible architectural objects and installations.
To him, space speaks of man, nature, proportion, reality, dreams, doorways, movement and silence. It shows him the relationship to his daily reality, and a yearning with a more profound one.
For Jonathan, sensitivity, atmosphere and the relationship to reality are imbedded in the material. His art depicts a quest for the longing for a place of quiet and reflection. To him, memories are intertwined with the architecture in which our daily lives unfold.
With Thijs Rijkers, Jonathan Straatman made an accessible installation. The two opposite worlds that manifest at the Oudegracht – the busy shops and the silent water of the canals – have been extended far into the wharf cellar.
